Mongolia Photo Journey – July 2022
This excursion had initially been planned for July 2020, then COVID happened. I am eternally grateful that individuals hung on to their reservations for two a long time and we had been able to have an amazing trip!
Our emphasis was cultural, while we did have a really couple wildlife sightings together with a critically endangered saiga antelope that galloped earlier us in a flash.
We have been in a position to continue to be with and photograph the legendary Kazakh eagle hunters and even crashed a marriage. Close to Khovd we went to a common festival referred to as a nadaam, with dusty, spirited horse races, and beefy wrestlers who made limited perform of soldiers who have been attending. At last, as aspect of the team split off to photograph the endangered takhi (Przewalski’s horse) I was capable to satisfy with shamans. In the Soviet era, Shamanism (and Buddhism) had been repressed, but the historic cultural traditions are creating a resurgence.
The vast steppe and arid mountains of Mongolia are magnificent. It is awe-inspiring to witness a rainstorm sweeping across the land and passing clouds dapple the hillsides. It is genuinely just one of the past places where a person can come to feel so little yet invigorated by character.
